Growing Family Expo Update

We apologize for not updating you in the last couple of weeks. We have been very busy helping all the New Practice Members from the Growing Family Expo and an event we did for Fleet Feet the following week. Excited doesn't describe how happy we are to help these folks!

Below are some pictures (soon to be added) of the Growing Family Expo.

We were joined by our new Chiropractic Assistant, Jamie, who'll you'll meet real soon! With her help Dr. Dalessandro and I were able to talk with and check a large number of people.

Saturday, there was a big crowd and lots of activity. Or maybe it seemed like a lot of activity since we were next to the children's play area where there was a toy drum set that was the most popular attraction there! What did you say? My hearing is slowing coming back.

Sunday, the crowd was more tame, but we still saw a good number of people and the drum set mysteriously disappeared (you can buy it on E-bay for next to nothing). Just kidding, just kidding. Oh and I was involved in a sort of "Daddy Olympics". Enjoy the photo and a good laugh!

We were the hit of the show with our "Give-away prize", an iPod Nano!! The lucky winner was drawn on Monday. Congratulations to the Scarlatellas!!

Growing Family Expo

There is a great "Expo" next weekend you should all check out! It's called Cincy's Growing Family "The Ultimate Family Expo". So pack the kids up, don't forget Grandma and Grandpa, and take the whole family to the Sharonville Convention Center in Sharonville, OH! Check out the website to see who's all there. You might see something familiar like, I don't know, our logo!

What's all the Buzz about?

We are very excited to introduce you to the first "Wellness Buzz" of the year. So what's the "Wellness Buzz"? Every month at Gateway Chiropractic Center we will be sharing new and exciting information about wellness! We will be hosting speakers in different aspects of wellness. As you know, being well and staying well comes from within and is influenced by your lifestyle choices. So, we are going to help you out and give you some alternatives in the mainstream of wellness!

Our first presentation will be Wednesday, March 18 from 6pm-7pm! We will be featuring Fitness Together, a personal training studio with a GREAT reputation for getting RESULTS. Food Drive for The Lord’s Rose Garden

As most of you know, throughout the year, Gateway Chiropractic Center engages in various community service projects with different groups around the city. This is all a part of our Community Outreach Program. In January of this year, we were contacted by The Lord's Rose Garden. Interestingly enough, the woman who contacted us, guess what her name was? Rose! She explained that they needed many things this time of year, one huge one is food. "We had an increase in the number of people visiting our food pantry the last couple of months (November and December) and in January and February we are expecting more and our supplies are greatly diminished," she said. Up for the challenge, we told her we would organize a Food Drive. With not much time to plan and wanting to get the food to them ASAP, we organized and got the flyers distributed.

We are asking for your help. The Food Drive is scheduled from Feb. 2-13. That means we have less than a week to get the food in our office so we can get it to the people at The Lord's Rose Garden! Are you up for the challenge?

The donation we are asking for is one bag of non-perishable food items. We would certainly accept more or less. Any donation is generous and greatly appreciated!

In the spirit of giving, we have tied the event with 2 very special offers.

What is Body Imbalance?

It sounds pretty obvious and it is! Once we explain, you'll start to be able to notice it in yourself and others. It all starts at the top of your body with head/neck misalignment. Did you know that your head weighs 8-14 lbs? Now, tilt your head to one side. How does that feel? Heavy, right! And strains your neck too! Probably not how you'd like to carry it all day. Am I right? But that's exactly how 90% of people are walking around and most don't even know it, until someone points it out. And by the way, this is NOT normal. Head tilt is the first sign of Body Imbalance.

Now, if you think your body doesn't like this, you are absolutely right! Our bodies are equipped with this really cool thing called the "Righting Reflex", which aims to keep your eyes level on the horizon at all times. It sounds simple enough, but it is a very powerful survival reflex, without it the body would be under dire stress. This brings us to the second sign of Body Imbalance. In order to keep your eyes level with your head tilted, your body will drop one shoulder, then a hip which in turn pulls up one leg causing it to appear shorter. However, your eyes are now level. What about the rest of the body? Doesn't that increase the strain on the shoulders, mid-back, low back, hips, knees and feet. YES!! You are now totally "crooked". This is called Body Imbalance. Does the amount of tilt matter? No, there are varying degrees of tilt and each person presents with tilts that may be more or less than another person. It is very individualized. For example, someone with a half inch head tilt might not have a lot of symptoms but someone with a quarter of an inch head tilt may have a lot. The important thing to know is that regardless of the amount of tilt or symptoms there is still Body Imbalance.

Do you think this affects your organs and other body systems? Of course it does! Head/neck misalignment has now altered the path of all the nerves that feed your organs and body systems. This includes your heart and circulatory system, your lungs and respiratory system, your liver, kidneys and waste elimination, your digestive and immune systems. It causes your body to use up a lot of valuable energy trying to keep you balanced inside and out, making you more susceptible to illnesses.

As I mentioned, Body Imbalance, starts at the top with the initial head/neck misalignment. How does this occur? It can start from birth, falls while learning to walk, playing sports, other falls, hitting your head, sleeping positions, car accidents among many others. It can also occur from repetitive movements or not moving as much as you should (sitting a lot at work, in car or at home). It can also occur because of emotional stressors you deal with daily including financial, family, work, etc… Chemical stressors can also be a cause. These may include poor diet, toxic household cleaners, etc…

How does it get corrected? An Upper Cervical Doctor is the only health professional trained to detect and correct this. The natural result of correcting the head/neck misalignment is
BODY BALANCE inside and out. This is why more than 100 conditions have responded to and were corrected with specific Upper Cervical Care.

I'm sure you're still wondering, "what in the world is Upper Cervical Healthcare and why should I concern myself with it?" Let me ask you a question. Have you or someone you know ever been really sick, in pain or had symptoms that even the physicians couldn't tell what was going on. OR, in response to your conditions, they've simply tried to cover up the symptoms, meanwhile the underlying cause remains "unknown"? We see new people everyday coming in to our office feeling hopeless because they have gone the traditional route without success. They've tried every gadget and specialist out there including traditional chiropractic care. We tell them that we are DIFFERENT, that we are not going to give them anything or take anything away from them, "You've walked in with the problem and the solution". We will simply determine if interference exists in the communication between the brain and body, causing the body to be out of balance (called Body Imbalance - more on this later). When we locate the interference, we will correct it and monitor it. Because of this gentle correction, your body's natural healing ability will be restored, your body will come back into balance and you will get well. It is as simple as that!

Let me tell you a quick story to illustrate what I'm talking about. Theresa came to us after spending the entire week before in the hospital. She was undergoing every test imaginable to determine why, for 3 years, she's been having horrible neck pain. She left there with a prescription for morphine and no answers. Fortunately, she heard about us from one of our practice members and decided to give us a try. After examining her, I determined that she had interference in the communication between her brain and her body which was CAUSED by a vertebral misalignment at the top of her neck, called the Upper Cervical spine. The first SPECIFIC CORRECTION brought Theresa back! The pain was almost completely gone! Over the next few weeks, not only did she continue to improve, she also stopped taking the morphine, which she said "hadn't even touched the pain." We were able to help her make a PROFOUND and LASTING change in her health. It's been over a year now and she is still pain free! She took control of her health and so can you!

Introducing Gateway Chiropractic Center

Welcome to our blog! We are excited to share information about Upper Cervical Healthcare, wellness, nutrition and much, much more with you. To start off we'd like to tell you a little bit about us and how we got started on this journey of helping people to regain their health and vitality.

My name is Dr. Brent Owens and I'm originally from a small town in Southern Indiana called Washington. As a child, my mom often went to a chiropractor and would occasionally bring me to get adjusted as well. After high school, I attended Purdue University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in General Health Science. I then started my chiropractic education at Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, MO in January of 2001. At Logan, I was an Anatomy tutor and graduated Magna Cum Laude as a Doctor of Chiropractic. I also obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Biology while there.

Dr. Gina Dalessandro grew up here, in Cincinnati, OH. She had her first experience with chiropractic when she was 14. Growing up, her family had horses and she rode them everyday. One day, while retrieving some water for them, her back "went out". She was in excruciating pain and once she made it to the house, she couldn't get out of bed. She couldn't sleep because the pain was agonizing. Her mom took her to the medical doctor and he gave her pain killers and muscle relaxers. She also saw several other "traditional" doctors and therapists and had all sorts of tests done, including an MRI, but no one offered her any solutions that seemed to help. To top it off, getting to these appointments was a nightmare, the pain was horrible and she had to be laid down, flat as a board, with the front seat all the way back so as to not to make the pain worse. Then finally her mom took her to a chiropractor. And she started to get better. It wasn't overnight, but it was the only thing that helped her get back to normal, which meant a lot to a very active 14 year old. After high school, she attended Murray State University and was on the rodeo team. She really wanted to work with horses in some capacity and saw first hand how chiropractic adjustments were helping horses regain and maintain their health. Ultimately, she ended up working as a chiropractic assistant for a chiropractor in Cincinnati. This reignited her passion and she decided to attend Logan College of Chiropractic. At Logan, she excelled and graduated Magna Cum Laude as a Doctor of Chiropractic and also received a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Biology.

Gina and I met while attending Logan, and we were quite a match from the start. We both have an intense passion for chiropractic and a vision to serve as many people in need as we can.

Gateway Chiropractic Center opened in early September 2007 in Montgomery, a suburb of Cincinnati. We are one of only two Upper Cervical Healthcare offices in Cincinnati. Wow! This is because there is only a small percent of chiropractors that are thoroughly trained in an upper cervical technique. The highest concentration is on the west coast. It was for this reason we had to pack up after graduating from Logan and move to Seattle, WA. We were passionate about what Upper Cervical Healthcare had to offer humanity and we were willing to move over 2,000 miles west to learn from the best. It was our plan from the day we set out that we would bring Upper Cervical, and its power to restore brain to body balance, back to our families and friends here in Cincinnati. And here we are!
